Abstract:
The present investigation is on the relative growth, size at sexual maturity and population fluctuation of portunid crab, Scylla serrata (Forska;, 1755) in Bogalay and Laputta Townships, Ayeyarwady Region. The study period lasted from July 2014 to July 2015.
The culture of mud crab was conducted in ponds, pens and cages. Size, growth and survival rate of mud crabs were studied.
The mud crabs, S. serrata were collected from nature for grow out and fattening cultures. The morphometric measurements and weights were recorded before stocking the mud crabs.
The soil type and number of crabs were studied in hot, rainy and cool seasons. More number of crabs were observed in silty areas than muddy areas during the hot season, while in the rainy season, the number of crabs in muddy areas increased than those in silty areas. In the cool season, the number of S. serrata in muddy areas was found to be higher than those in silty areas.
