Author: U Saw KhunKyi, Assistant lecture, Geology Department
Abstract:
The study area lies in the Yinmabin. Township, Sahaing division. It is  situated in the Inner- Burman Tertiary Basin, which is relatively a lowlying province between the sino-Barman Ragnes to the east and the Indo-Barman Ranges to the west. The Cretaceous Basement Complex forms a majority of the present area and consists chiefly of diabase, diorite a granophyre. Wagintaung Formation is mainly composed of well cemented sandstones and conglomerate with subordinated mudstone, Eocene age. This formation is deposited under fluvial environments. The Damapala Formation (lower miocene) overliesnonconformably on the Basement Complex. The upper part of the Damapala formation consists of interbedded Sandstones and mudstones. This formation is deposited under shallow maineervironment. A small hill, locally known as Thingyaungtaung, consists entirely of such dyke rocks-bringer of the copper minralization. Magnesites, Limestones, Sandstone bricks, Hematites, Golds, Gravel, Sand Soap.are economically important.
Keywords: Basement complex, Cretaceous age, Wazintaung formation, Eocene age, Damapala Formation, Lower Miocene age, Shallow Marine environment.
