Investigation of Some Chemical Constituents and Biological Activities of Seeds of Miusops elengi Linn (Ka – yae)

Author: *Hay Man Min Oo
Abstract:
Mimusops elengi Linn., locally known as Ka-yae in Myanmar possessing Sapotaceae family has been chosen to study some chemical constituents and biological activities on its seeds. The preliminary phytochemical results revealed the presence of carbohydrates, glycosides, phenolic compounds, reducing sugars, saponins, steroids and tannins in this medicinal plant. Ka-yae seed oil was extracted from kernel of Ka-yae seeds by using soxhlet extraction method. Some physicochemical characteristic values of oil such as refractive index, specific gravity, acid value, iodine value, saponification value determined by the standard methods. The functional group of Ka-yae seed oil detected by FTIR spectroscopic technique. Moreover, the constituents of Ka-yae seed oil was investigated by using GC-MS spetroscopic method. In addition, the radical scarveging activity determined by DPPH assay method. The antimicrobial screening of EtOH and watery estracts of shell of Ka-yae seeds against Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus pumilus, Candida albicans, and Escherichia coli were expressed by using Agar Well Diffusion method. And then, the contents of some elements in kernel and shell of Mimusops elengi Linn. (Ka-yae) seeds were determined by using AAS method.
