A General Study of Kayah Dialect in the Context of Loikaw

Abstract:
          This research focuses on the general study of Kayah dialect in the content of Loikaw. Like other varieties of Myanmar language, there are some salient differences between Kayah dialect and standard Myanmar language. Kayah dialect means regional dialect of Myanmar language used by the residents in Kayah state. The study of dialect is based on the differences of phonological, morphological and syntactic structures. To investigate the differences between Kayah dialect and standard Myanmar language, a total of twenty natives were interviewed and the authentic dialect of them from different social contexts has been recorded. Then, the collected data were compared with standard Myanmar language in order to find out the differences on morphological, syntactic and phonological structure between the standard Myanmar language and the dialect. The findings show that there is a significant difference in phonological system although there are some differences in morphological systems and syntactic the structure of the language.
