A Geographical Analysis on Cotton Cultivation of Natogyi Township

Abstract:
          Cotton (Gossyium spp.), the king of fibre, is closely linked to human civilization itself. Natogyi Township is one of the largest cotton producers of Mandalay Tegion. Cotton is the most important commercial crop and the backbone of agricultural activities in the study area. It also provides sustainable livelihoods for local people. This research paper emphasizes to know the spatio-temporal changes of cotton cultivation and production of Natogyi Township from geographical point of view. The differences between spatial patterns of cotton cultivated areas are determined by spatial indices that relate to the Lorenz Curve and Dissimilarity Index. The cooncentration of cotton sown areas are analyzed by means of Location quotients, which is the most extensively method to determine the concentration. Moreover, triennium average method is also used to analyze the temporal changes of cultivation and production of cotton. The author hopes the paper will be useful to various observers and students which are concerned directly or indirectly with cotton sector.
